Used diesel forklifts

The diesel forklift is the workhorse of loading yards, builders’ merchants, timber yards, scrapyards and any outdoor operation. Its combustion engine delivers constant power, performs well on ramps and offers the autonomy for long shifts, needing only to be refuelled.

We handle used diesel forklifts from Linde, Hyster, Nissan, Mitsubishi, CTC and Tailift, among others, with capacities ranging from 1,400 kg to 5,000 kg and above.

What it is for

Outdoor work, uneven ground, heavy loads and continuous use. It is common in construction and builders’ merchants, the metal and timber industries, yard logistics and agriculture.

  • Outdoor work in rain, dust or gravel.
  • Loads of 2.5 tonnes and above.
  • Long or multiple shifts without stopping to recharge.

Types and configurations

Capacities

From 1.5 tonnes to more than 5 tonnes in the mid-range models, with a proportional counterweight.

Tyres

Pneumatic tyres absorb unevenness and are the usual choice outdoors; solid superelastic tyres cannot puncture and stand up better to environments with metal debris. We explain this in solid versus pneumatic tyres.

Mast

Duplex for moderate heights and better visibility; triplex with free lift for high stacking or working inside containers.

Transmission

Hydrostatic transmissions (as on many Lindes) control travel very precisely; torque converter transmissions are robust and simple.

How to choose

  1. Weight and size of the load, including long or bulky loads that move the load centre further out.
  2. Terrain: tyre type and ground clearance.
  3. Stacking height and space in the yard.
  4. Safety equipment: cab, work lights, beacon light, reversing alarm, seat belt.
  5. Side shift or other attachments depending on the load.
  6. Hours and engine condition: check for leaks, smoke and transmission problems.

Maintenance

The combustion engine needs oil and filter changes and checks on the cooling and exhaust systems, in addition to the usual inspections of the mast, chains, brakes and hydraulics. Outdoors, dust and damp accelerate wear: regular preventive maintenance avoids costly breakdowns.

Buy or hire

For stable outdoor operations, a checked used diesel will give many years of service. If you need extra capacity in the peak season or to cover a breakdown, hire is the quickest solution.

Frequently asked questions

What is a diesel forklift used for?

For working outdoors, in loading yards and on uneven ground, with heavy loads and on long shifts without stopping to charge batteries.

Can a diesel be used indoors?

It is not recommended in enclosed spaces because of the exhaust fumes. For indoor work, an electric forklift is a better choice.

Pneumatic or solid tyres?

Pneumatic for uneven ground and comfort; solid to avoid punctures in environments with metal or abrasive debris.

What do you check before selling a used diesel?

Engine, transmission, mast, chains, hydraulics, brakes, steering and safety features.

What is a side shift?

An attachment that moves the forks left and right without moving the forklift, so you can line up with the pallet precisely. Many of our units are fitted with one.

Diesel or gas (LPG)?

LPG produces fewer emissions than diesel and allows some mixed indoor/outdoor use; diesel offers more torque and is more common for intensive outdoor work. We compare them on our blog.

Do you repair diesel forklifts of any make?

Yes, we are a multi-brand service provider and come to you with a mobile workshop van.
