Checked used electric forklifts

The electric counterbalance forklift is the most widely used machine in warehouses, industrial units and logistics centres. It runs on a traction battery, produces no exhaust fumes at the point of work, is very quiet and costs little per hour compared with a diesel. That makes it the natural choice for indoor work and for shifts with breaks in which to recharge.

In our stock you will find used electric forklifts from makes such as Linde and Still, three- and four-wheel models, with duplex or triplex masts and typical capacities from 1,400 to 2,500 kg.

What it is for

Loading and unloading lorries at the dock, storage on medium-height racking, feeding production lines and moving pallets indoors. As it produces no fumes, it is the only sensible option in food, pharmaceuticals, retail or any enclosed space with staff.

  • Indoors and covered loading docks.
  • Smooth concrete or resin floors.
  • Shifts of 6 to 8 hours with recharging afterwards, or longer with a battery change.

Types and configurations

Three-wheel or four-wheel

The three-wheel model turns practically on the spot and is the most agile in aisles and tight spaces. The four-wheel model offers more stability and a higher load capacity, and works better on ramps and less even floors.

Duplex or triplex mast

The duplex mast has two sections and is usually enough up to about 3–4 metres. The triplex adds a third section: it reaches higher while keeping the closed height low, which is useful for entering containers or passing under doors. Many include free lift, which raises the forks without the mast extending.

Battery voltage

Lower-capacity models usually run at 24 or 48 V; those with higher tonnage or for intensive use, at 80 V. The ampere-hour rating (Ah) determines the run time.

How to choose

  1. Load capacity: the weight of your heaviest pallet, with a margin. Remember that capacity decreases with lift height and load centre.
  2. Lift height: the height of the top racking level plus about 15–20 cm of clearance.
  3. Closed height: check doors, mezzanines and containers.
  4. Aisle width: if it is narrow, consider a three-wheel model or a reach truck.
  5. Battery: condition, voltage, ampere-hours and whether the charger is included.
  6. Operating hours: an indicator of wear, together with the maintenance it has received.

Maintenance

An electric forklift has fewer wearing parts than an IC-engine one, but the battery and hydraulic components need attention: topping up and checking the electrolyte density of lead-acid batteries, inspecting the mast chains and rollers, brakes, steering and hydraulic leaks. With a preventive maintenance programme tailored to the working hours, service life is extended considerably. See also our guide on how long the battery lasts.

Buy or hire

If use is continuous and long-term, a checked used electric forklift is the most economical way to have a reliable machine. If the need is temporary, for seasonal peaks or a breakdown, hire avoids the investment; and for stable fleets with fixed costs, contract hire includes maintenance in the monthly fee.

Frequently asked questions

What is a counterbalance forklift?

It is the most common type of forklift: it loads at the front and offsets the weight of the load with a counterweight at the rear. It can be electric or diesel.

How long does the battery last in a working day?

It depends on the ampere-hour rating, the load and how intensively the truck is used; a battery in good condition usually covers one shift. For several shifts, spare batteries are swapped in or opportunity charging is used during breaks.

What is the difference between a duplex and a triplex mast?

The duplex has two sections and the triplex three: the triplex reaches higher with a similar closed height, which makes it easier to enter containers or pass under doors.

Three wheels or four?

Three wheels for maximum manoeuvrability in aisles and tight spaces; four wheels for more stability, capacity and work on ramps.

Can an electric forklift be used outdoors?

Outdoors on firm ground and without heavy rain, yes. For gravel, mud or steep slopes, a diesel is preferable.

What details does each stock listing include?

Reference, year, load capacity, maximum and closed height, mast type, battery and operating hours, as well as the equipment.

Are the used forklifts checked?

Yes, they all go through our workshop before delivery.

Can I hire an electric forklift?

Yes, from 1 day to 60 months, with preventive and corrective maintenance and third-party liability insurance included.
